~ MEET PRECIOUS ~

January 20, 2013 - Precious was dumped at Animal Control by her owners probably because she just got too old... she is a tiny 3 lb yorkie and as sweet as she can be. We are sponsoring her for "Get A Life Pet Rescue." We are not sure how old she is but she is definitely a Senior and does not appear to hear or see very well. We will be bringing her to the vet's office in the morning.

January 21, 2013 - Precious was brought to our Vet's office this morning. She has a bit of colitis but her fecal test was normal. Her heart is beating strong and she has a very healthy appetite. She has a mammary gland tumor in her belly which will need to be removed. It has also been determined that she is deaf and almost blind because of cataracts. She tends to sleep a lot but wouldn't you if you were both deaf AND blind???

The Vet took some blood and is running tests to make sure her kidneys are functioning normally. If so, we will schedule her surgery for the tumor removal. After she recovers from that we will be taking her to the eye doctor to have her cataracts assessed. If she is a good candidate for cataract surgery, we will have at least one eye repaired to help improve her quality of life. Please, if you can, donate towards her care.

January 25, 2013 - Precious is very ill right now with a bad case of Kennel Cough which she contracted at the Animal Control facility. Her blood work did not come back normal... and there is an indication that she could have cancer, possibly pancreatic cancer. The results will come back on Monday morning... more results will be posted then. For right now she is quarantined in a separate room in our home.

February 4, 2013 - Precious has pretty much recovered from her severe Kennel Cough. Today she had her surgery to remove all of her mammary gland tumors as well as her remaining four teeth.  The tumors have been sent away for a full pathology report to determine if they were malignant. Precious is resting comfortably. What a tiny little trooper she is. Updates coming....

February 5, 2013 - Precious is definitely on her road to recovery. This morning she is up and around... and her true personality seems to be emerging for the first time since she arrived. we are sure having those rotten teeth removed and her recovering from Kennel Cough is the reason why. She weighs less than 3 lbs. What this tiny little dog has been through is an amazing testament to the yorkie breed! A BIG thank you to the Ligori Family for paying for her surgery yesterday! THANK YOU!

Precious has had a chest x-ray and even though this cough sounds nasty, she does not have pneumonia. She is being carefully monitored and is in a separate area of the house so as not to infect the other dogs since Kennel Cough is highly contagious!

February 8, 2013 - The pathology report came back for the mammary gland tumors removed from Precious. They were all benign (not cancer), so we have a lot to celebrate around here. We will repeat her blood work next week to check for improvement. Once that has been done, we will be making an appointment with an eye specialist to discuss cataract surgery. Thanks for your prayers everyone!

March 1, 2013 - Precious goes to the Opthamologist today to have her eyes examined! The Vet stated that as soon as pre-blood work is done, she can have cataract surgery. There is an 80% chance it iwll work perfectly. We can elect to do just one eye or both of them... stay tuned for updates.

March 15, 2013 - Due to a few emergencies we have elected to delay Precious's cataract surgery for a few more weeks.

March 28, 2013 - Precious has developed a chronic  cough that has us concerned. She is  now on antibiotics. she goes back to the Vet in one week. we will wait for the Vet's final assessment before we schedule her cataract surgery.

April 4, 2013 -  Precious went to the Vet today and because the antibiotic did not seem to improve her cough she had her chest xrayed today. She has an enlarged heart which has progressively gotten worse over the past 3 months. Due to her change in cartiac health she is no longer a candidate for Cataract surgery.  She is now being placed on heart meds. We are hoping the new meds will help with her chronic cough. If so, we will continue to keep her comfortable until she chooses to move on to the Rainbow Bridge. Hopefully we will not have to make that decision for her, but we will if she begins to suffer. If anyone wishes to give her a home until that time comes, where she will receive undivided love and attention, please contact Florida Yorkie Rescue. (photo to left was taken today, April 4, 2013)
*Cataract Surgery cancelled - read below.*
April 14, 2013 - Precious has had a rough few days with a bout of diarrhea and vomiting. But today she seems to be well again. It is possible that the heart medication is causing a tummy upset. We will check with our Vet tomorrow. The photo to the right was taken yesterday. I can't help but feel as those she looks like she has aged quite a bit since she arrived in January. Maybe it is just me. But she does appear more frail and gray, but i guess it is to be expected after having survived through two surgeries. We pray for her everyday and when the time comes for her to make the transition to the Rainbow Bridge we will be there to help her cross over.

May 31, 2013 - Precious continues to do well considering her age.  She is however receiving daily eye drops, thyroid medication and heart medication. If you can make a donation towards her monthly prescriptions, we would be very grateful.
7/30/2013 - PRECIOUS DIED TODAY. SHE CROSSED OVER TO THE RAINBOW BRIDGE AT 12:13 P.M. TODAY. MAY GOD BLESS HER. SHE WILL BE MISSED. WE LOVED HER SO MUCH.
