PLEASE HELP US ~ MEET MISS BELLA
P L E A S E P R A Y F O R M I S S B E L L A !
Miss Bella was brought into our rescue several weeks ago. We were told she was between 4-6 years old and in reasonably good health. This was not the case. Miss Bella is a senior yorkie who has had her share of hard times.
She was passed around from family to family and the last home gave her up after only two weeks. When she arrived here she had very oily skin, her body was shaved of all hair and she had a shrinking eye.
She was diagnosed with "dry eye" and if she had been given drops in it twice a day she would have been able to use that eye quite well. Instead she was not treated. The eye began to shrink, dried out and shrunk. This is a very painful condition for any dog and poor Miss Bella must have suffered so.
When she first arrived she had to get her teeth cleaned... resulting in her losing 8 teeth. Poor little girl, but she was a trooper and rebounded, learning to eat quite well with very few teeth.
We began treating her eye with medication and ointments but despite our best effort, the eye developed an ulcer and had to be removed immediately. That surgery was done February 26, 2010. Thankfully she survived a second surgery in the same month.
Miss Bella is a great little dog, despite her medical challenges and her age. She gets around great, will jump and dance for a treat and loves to be cuddled. She does have a cataract in her remaining eye but seems to see quite well in spite of it.
She is currently up for adoption after she recovers so if anyone can open their hearts to this little lady, please email us.
We are currently trying to raise funds to help pay for all of Miss Bella's medical expenses.
