I love to go for walks and go to the dog park. I didn’t really know how to play since I grew up in a cage but I’m learning! If I can’t keep up (my hind legs are a little stiff), I can watch and cheer (I’m a good barker!) I am learning to kiss and snuggle but I love to have my belly rubbed and ears scratched. I even give my mom a little lick once in a while (it makes her really happy!)

My mom and dad promised me no more cages! I do have a soft crate with my bed in it but they only close the door when we go visiting in the car on a long trip and stay overnight. My mom’s grandkids were scared of dogs but I am helping them not be afraid and they even walk me on my leash now. I did such a good job, my mom is going to take me to try out to be a therapy dog.

Thank you Miss Kit, for rescuing me and finding me my forever home. My mom and dad are so happy I am here and they thank you too.

Happy Holidays!
Barney

We have created a special holiday feature called “Holiday Treats.”  If you have adopted a dog from Florida Yorkie Rescue, we would love to hear from you. Just send us an email with an update about your Yorkie, Morkie or Maltese since the Adoption Day and what your experience was like working with us. Photos are indeed welcome and will be posted on our Facebook page and the home page during the holidays.  What better time of year for all of us here at FYR to be reunited through photos and stories of the precious “furkids” that have come through our doors.
Barney here! Thank you for rescuing me from a home where I was stuck in a cage all day. When you brought me to meet my new Mom and Dad, I was very, very skinny. My new mom sat on the floor and hand fed me all kinds of food to try to get m...e to eat. Then I had my dental and Dr. Mary found I had sore teeth! She took them out and now I love to eat! I get a dental every year and get softer food but still love my denta stix.

My sister Jelly, got old and sick and she went over the Rainbow Bridge. Mom and Dad got me a new brother: Higgins. He’s no Yorkie but he plays with me and is keeping me young. I am going to be 8 years old soon but you’d never know. We take naps on the big chair and the sofa together.
We adopted Candie in June of 2012 so she has been a part of our family (2 Cairn Terrier sisters) for under six months.  She has made a total turn around in her personality since we got her.  She was a little shy and quiet.  Now she speaks her mind, wags her tail and, yes, even plays with toys!  She loves going for walks and leads the pack back to the house for a quick treat and a nap (she's 10 years young).

We all love her, especially her people.  Since she is the smallest on four legs, she gets held a lot.  Best wishes to everyone out there and a special "thank you" to Florida Yorkie Rescue for all you do to give these special dogs a second chance!!  LOL  Judy and Paul

Here is Candie's Journey with FYR posted on Youtube Video.

Hi, I'm Miss Margy Moo Moo from Vero Beach. That's what my new parents call me.  I was adopted in March 2012 and I am so happy. I am a nose nibbler!  I live in a very nice home and have lots of good food and every night after dinner I get a treat, my favorite!  I also get to sleep with mommy and daddy so I am never afraid.  In the daytime when daddy takes a nap , I sleep with him in the recliner on his head! It's very comfotable!  My mommy and daddy take me to the dog park every day. I have lots of friends there.

This summer we went camping for four months. I traveled the entire east coast of America to get there. We camped in a trailer that had a fireplace so it wasn't really roughing it!! It was so much fun to chase the big woodchuck there and oh my, all those squirrels!
I'll tell you a secret. My parents have friends there who also have a Morkie. His name is Jack and here's the secret "I love him!".  I am a very lucky dog and I thank Florida Yorkie Rescue for finding me such a good home. I can't wait for Santa to come!!  Margy   ~  Sandy and Dick from Vero Beach , FL
My Wonderful Magical Yorkie

Four years ago this coming February 5th Kit brought over to my house a little two year old Yorkie.  His original name was sort of long so Kit had changed his name to Sully.  When she brought “Sully” inside she dropped his leash and allowed him to wander around the living room.  He walked over and checked out the French doors then turned around, came to me and licked my face.  That was when the magic began.

When Kit left I could see the tears welling up. I thought she was happy for us but later I discovered this little dog had worked his charm on her and her husband while they fostered him.  Kit was already missing “Sully”. The minute the door closed, I called to “Sully” but I called him Martini and that is his forever name.

Martini has traveled all around Florida and the southeast with us in the four years that he has shared his life with us.  We found not only pet friendly hotels but pet welcoming hotels.  Nothing excites Martini more than asking him if he wants to go in the car.  He’s an excellent traveler.

A year and a half ago I became very sick and had to have an immediate operation.  The result was eight days in the hospital and coming home almost helpless.  The first day I
was home I called to my husband for help in doing something.  My husband was in the kitchen and too far away to hear me.  I called to him twice to no avail.  Martini was sitting by my bed.  He sensed something was wrong and went running and barking to my husband.  Quickly my husband came to my aid.  From that moment on Martini was my very own communications system.  We came to rely on him for his help until I was on my feet again.

Martini is also a charmer.  Men and women and little children are drawn to him once they see his face.  He is truly a gentle little creature.  He has no idea about aggression.  He really is a lover and not a fighter.

Martini is my constant companion and little friend.  He lives to play with his many toys and I live to play with him.

If I could have filled out a sheet of paper stating all the things I would have wanted in a dog, Martini would have exceeded my desires. He’s just the best.

Thank you Kit, for bringing into my life such love and joy and fun.  I will never forget Florida Yorkie Rescue for uniting us with our wonderful sweetheart yorkie.

With sincerity and gratitude ~ Patricia and Martini

What an exciting day it was the day we adopted Tiffany!  When Kit brought her to us she came right up to me and greeted me with lots of kisses like she already knew me.  She was very excited to meet her new Daddy too which was a little bit of a surprise because Kit had said she was sometimes afraid of men.

The first few days were somewhat of a challenge for all 3 of us because she had so many unknown fears.  She was found as a stray rescued by a lady when Tiffany walked up onto her porch.  The lady then turned her over to F.Y.R.   So we have no idea what her past was like.  She was very thin and covered with matts & ticks.  We hate to think about what her life might have been like before F.Y.R. got her.

Today Tiffany is a well adjusted and very sweet little girl.  Her Daddy takes her for at least one or two walks a day and she seems to really enjoy it!  She is very loved and cherished.  We can't imagine our lives without her.  Thank you Kit and all of F.Y.R. for letting us adopt her.  You are doing such a wonderful job.

Here is a photo of Lexi, rescued from Florida Yorkie Rescue in January 2011. She was 4 years old at the time. She lives with her best friend; a Havenese mix that we rescued in 2007 when he was only 5 months old. They are now best buddies. Lexi had to have knee surgery in February but is doing just fine now; jumping and playing as usual. Thanks to Kit for allowing Lexi to come live with us.

July 25, 2009 to Today

Hello, my name is Squirt. When you see stories of “forever home” placements by the Florida Yorkie Rescue, it makes me so happy for other rescues that have found a place in someone’s heart.  They found my family on July 25, 2009 and life has been good to me since that day. My name is perfect since I weigh only 5 lbs. and I wear a cat collar with a bell so that I don’t get stepped on.

Routine here was the first thing I had to learn.  I went to “school” for six weeks and learned a lot. It was fun to train with other little dogs. I also learned to tell time. I know the schedules now and sometimes remind mom and dad when it’s time to eat, walk, play, and get brushed.  They don’t really forget but I can get kind of vocal if they get behind schedule! I get walked twice a day at a nice nearby park and have playtime with other spoiled rescue dogs.  I do have some favorites, but my boyfriend is Indy! I often get to visit “Grandpa”. He is 92 and resides at an assisted living facility. His friends at the home love me and I get the best hugs from them. It's
neat to see the look in their eyes as they think about the pets they’ve had in their lives. I become a poodle, a shepherd, a cocker spaniel, or whatever animal they used to have. I lick their faces and make them smile. The staff loves to see me because I am their “therapy” dog.

Mom has a waiting list of people who want to “baby sit” me.  I love them all but nothing compares to the comfort and love of my house and parents.  I own a doggie bed, two kennels (just in case of a hurricane), two couches (I really like the soft new leather one), and a big bed that I share with mom and dad at night.  Did I tell you I can dance? I do a ballerina when I want to eat or want a treat.   Please tell Kit that I am NOT afraid of cameras anymore! I love to pose for pictures and love the annual picture with Santa and the blessing of the animals. Thank you Florida Yorkie Rescue for what you do and did for my family and me.  P.S.  I love the beach, hate the waves, and love chasing seagulls.

Sincerely,  Squirt
Here is a photo of Tibby and Cricket who were surrendered by their owners because they could no longer afford to care for them. Their nails were so long they had become embedded in the pads of their paws. They both needed dentals and they arrived dirty and badly matted. But look at these precious babies now!  Thanks you Mary Ellen and Dennis for giving this bonded pair of girls a second chance. They are now living a wonderfully spoiled and pampered life as all yorkies should! ~ Florida Yorkie Rescue.
Happy Holidays to Florida Yorkie Rescue from Sandy and Bobby, and of course, Bella Boo, our sweet little four-year old yorkie whom we adopted back in April. After almost 25 years with neither of us having a dog, we reached out to FYR in hopes of finding a friend, a companion and a little "chum" to be part of our lives.

Bello Boo has become our pride and joy.  She traveled to Buffalo, New York, twice, with Bobby.  She loves her car rides, but especially her rides in the golf carts when she gets to do her runs. Every morning she sits on her own padded stool and looks out for her "guys" (the squirrels and geckos). She would sit there for an hour before being asked out to potty.  Never an accident with this little darling.

She is so spoiled, she not only has one bed, but about eight little hideaways, besides our bed.  Bath time for Bella is certainly no chore at all.  She sits quietly in the sink and waits until we put the towel over her head so she can shake; and she loves the hair dryer and being brushed. I would never have guessed that this little girl has brought so much joy into our lives.

We could not have been happier working with FYR.  It is amazing all that they do to find homes for these needed animals.  My heart goes out to all of them.  What better time to forward my donation, under separate cover.  They were so very friendly and helpful in our search for the right match. When we saw Bella's picture, we KNEW she was OURS.

                                        Teri and Lovey...

Thank you so much for taking care of me and my sisters. I'm very happy with my new parents and my big brother Hurley. He's a Yorkie like me. We spend most of the day together playing and hanging out. We have a lot of fun together!

As you ...can see from the picture, I've grown a little and my hair is turning silver and beige. My new Vet says I'm " Simply Adorable" Hey, Kit. Guess What? My mommy and daddy signed me up for puppy training classes. The classes start next Tuesday at 8:00pm. I can't wait. It's going to be lots of fun because the whole family is going with me. I hear I'll even get to wear a cap and gown when I graduate! I promise I'll send you pictures .

Well, gotta run now. We're going to start wrapping presents. Merry Christmas, Kit ! Please send a big bow wow to my mom Cutie Pie and my sisters Carly and Cira!

In September, 2010 we saw a picture of Bailey from F.Y.R. on the internet and fell immediately in love with him.  We called F.Y.R. and found out more about Bailey.  After several e-mails and phone calls, a week later Kit brought him down to meet us for a possible adoption.  Bailey was surrendered by his former owners and we were lucky to have had as much information as we did since he was a puppy.  He was shy, not house broken, and didn't seem to have much of an appetite.  All that changed quickly for the better.  Within a short period of time, he was house broken and loves his walks, expecially the doggy park, sitting on our laps, and, of course, his treats.  His shyness disappeared quickly...he is king of the house and he knows it.  He is very much loved and can't imagine our lives without Bailey.
No matter how your day is going, you look at Bailey and he makes you smile.  Wherever we go, people stop us and make fuss over what a cute dog Bailey is, most people think he is still a puppy. Thank you Kit for approving our application for adopting Bailey.  ~ Lois and Stan

I began to search - I was looking for a female about 7 or 8 - then came across the Yorkie Rescue Group -up popped Peanuts face and John lit up and said that's the one - how about we adopt him.  Next I said you know he is 12 years old - so what and I knew his heart was wanting Peanut.   Peanut was named Cupid by the Fl Yorkie Rescue as he was found wandering he streets - alone - afraid - a mess on Valentines Day.   He was very well behaved and quiet all the way home and then went from room to room checking everything out - he was happiest when we were all in the same room and when we weren't he kept running from room to room to make sure we were still there. He enjoys a short walk and we go to the lake in our community and feed the ducks.  I have a walker with a seat and when he is tired I put him in and he loves this and all the people who stop say what a handsome boy he is.  Then I have a scooter and  sometimes we ride around the complex with Peanut in the basket. Peanut is also a great little traveler - although he does prefer the weather down south more than up north and at this point so do we.  He also loves to eat and although he knows he can't eat what we do he is always trying and then he eats his food which always consists of things he likes - bits of chicken & steak mixed in with pumpkin and rice.  For desert he loves a little yogurt.

We have had him about a year or so now - he has been a joy and he knows now how much he is loved and has no more fear in his heart or soul. All I can say is - there are so many animals out there in need of a second  chance to have a loving family and home.  I always say we are giving Peanut a second chance at a happy ending and he is doing he same for us. Now I have to say bless you all at the Florida Yorkie group for all the hard work you do to give these wonderful animals a second chance.  Take care for now and may all your holidays be wonderful filled with health and love. ~ Hugs from Peanut -Helen and John
