Carly arrived on August 28, 2015. She was kept in a small crate perched on top of an end table for years on end. She is nine year old and weighs almost three pounds.  When she arrived she was heavily matted, had major hair loss and muscle atrophy in her legs from not being allowed to walk. She had an infected salivary gland which caused her saliva to pool up under her neck. Her blood work was not normal and she had an infection in her uterus and some rotten teeth. She had been eating very bad dog food as well.  Yes, to make matters worse this tiny little thing had also been bred and had puppies in her lifetime.

She was spayed and had a dental cleaning and lost five rotten teeth. At the time of her spay her blood work had not improved significantly so upon the advise of our specialists a biopsy of her kidneys and liver were done at the same time.
She also received a full body X-ray and at that time it was determined that she also had Gall  Bladder Stones.  (I know, how much worse can this story get?)

The results of her biopsy have recently been received and a diagnosis has been reached. She is suffering from Glomerulonephritis which is an autoimmune problem where the body attacks membranes in the kidneys, so Carly is suffering from kidney failure. She also has a thyroid deficiency which is why most of her hair fell out. The Vet has given her 6-12 months to live.

She is now receiving proper nutrition and many different medications to help her with her frequent coughing, her Gall  Bladder Stones, her thyroid and her infections. We have noticed an improvement and she appears to be much more comfortable now. Her future medical costs will be significant. If you can help we would be so grateful!

October 9, 2015 - Carly has not been doing well. As you may remember her last biopsy came back of Carly's kidneys showing she has Glomerulonephritis which is an auto immune problem in the body that attacks the membranes of the kidneys and put the dogs into kidney failure. She can also throw blood clots. She also has gall bladder stones.  She is taking hydrocodone for a cough but it is not helping so we increased the dosage. Well, the increased dosage did nothing to help so I brought her back to the Vet today and requested that a chest x-ray be taken. She has a minor heart murmur... a 2 out of a 6 grade which we can deal with but the x-ray showed that Carly's heart is so enlarged is fills her entire chest cavaity and is compressing on her lungs which is making her cough and have difficult catching her breath. So now I have her on heart mediation, Feurosimide, Pimobedine and Enalapril. This poor little girl. She is also on Steroids and hydrocodone but I will be weaning her off of those to see if she does ok just on the heart meds and the medication for her gall bladder stones. She is gaining a bit of weight and seems happy enough. If I can get the cough under control I think she can enjoy a good quality of life for as long as she may have left. Please continue to pray for Carly. If you can make a donation towards her increasing medical bills it would be very much appreciated.
October 15, 2015 - It is with deep sorrow that I announce that Carly died in the wee hours of the morning in the Vet Hospital. The only diagnosis the Vet can come up with is that she suffered a stroke caused by a blood clot from her grossly enlarged heart. She never regained any functions yesterday and appeared neurological unstable. We were hoping for an improvement this morning. I know I cannot save them all. I so desperately try to heal these dogs from years of neglect and abuse... but when I lose one my husband and I feel it so deeply that it ricochets off of our hearts and bores a hole right through our souls. We are beyond devastated. I will miss those tiny little pitter patter sounds of her paws when she came running for her breakfast and dinner every day... the adorable little face she had when she slept at night and those huge eyes that stole our hearts the minute we saw her. This one folks is going to be a tough loss to recover from.
REST IN PEACE SWEET ANGEL.
